A container does not mean you care less. It means the conversation you are having now has a clear purpose, a clear scope, and a clear end. As the mentor leading the Dandelion cohort put it, clarity creates safety, and safety allows learning. Without the container, both people are guessing what the conversation is, and guessing is exhausting.

When an educator starts to disengage — going through the motions, pulling back from conversation, seeming present but somewhere else entirely — it is tempting to read it as a motivation problem. The neuroscience suggests something different. Disengagement is not usually a choice. It is a neurological response to an environment that is not meeting a fundamental human need.
